Chapter 12

Routing and Traffic Engineering in Data Center Networks

The one thing you shouldn't do is try to tell a cab driver how to get somewhere.

Abstract

Data centers are heavily used for cloud services. Due to huge demand for cloud services, large data centers are organized as data center networks for scalabilty. In this chapter, we discuss data center netowrk topologies such as a fat-tree topology. We then discuss routing and forwarding mechanisms in data center networks, and the traffic engineering implications.
