Chapter 7. Artificial Light Sources
If light is the most important part of the photographic process, then the color of illumination is perhaps the most influential. The hue and saturation of an image sometimes draws the viewer more than the subject matter. And an otherwise interesting subject may be less effective if the color is not pleasing. This problem is due in part to the physical characteristics of the light source, which can reproduce in-camera differently than our eyes perceive them. You can improve your results if you understand how light affects color in night scenes.
