In this chapter, I provide in-depth details of different types of photography with example images of each. These details include information about what lenses and accessories were used and why I used them, as well as any problems I encountered and what I did to resolve or work around them.

Many of the images represent different techniques that you can use to create dynamic and interesting images of your own. This isn't meant to be an all-inclusive how-to photography guide, but a collection of tricks, tips, and techniques that I have learned by working in the field and also working with other photographers.

Action and Sports Photography

Although the high frame rate of 5 frames per second (fps) — 8 with the optional battery grip — of the D700 comes in handy when you're shooting action and sports, often the best approach with shooting action is to get familiar with the movement of the subject, learn when the action is at its peak, and then take your shot.

You can employ a number of different techniques to decrease motion blur on your subject. The most commonly used technique is panning. Panning is following the moving subject with your camera lens.
