CHAPTER 7Achieving Business Value from AI

As AI continues to capture the attention of the business community, some predict that this technology will foster the greatest period of transformation since the Industrial Revolution. Until now, a lot of the innovation around AI has been driven and commercialized by companies such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook. But that has begun to change.

As adoption of AI increases and spreads across various industries, companies can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines. As businesses from every sector start ramping up their efforts to integrate AI into their operational model, as well as their commercial offerings, companies must invest immediately in AI solutions or risk falling behind.

However, not all companies will be able to develop their own AI solution in-house, so to catch up with the tech giants, many smaller companies will need to seek technology partners to set up the least expensive, most effective way to harness the business value from AI. But as more and more AI models are put into production and used to make critical business decisions, the primary challenge of leveraging value from AI will change. The next major challenge will become operation and management of multiple models in production, and MLOps is the technical response to that issue.
