One of the most common requirements in the data center environment is the need to add and remove nodes dynamically when the demand spikes. Oracle 10g RAC extends the capacity to add and remove the cluster nodes online. Nodes should be homogeneous and should have the same computing capacity. Though adding a node with higher or lower capacity than the members is technically possible, it is usually not recommended as it creates a logical imbalance between the nodes.
