In this chapter we discuss the key concepts in backup and recovery operations of Real Application Clusters (RAC) databases. Basic backup and recovery methods for the RAC database are similar to those for single instance databases. No special considerations for media recovery or any other advanced recovery mechanisms are required, so this chapter does not cover generic backup (and recovery) mechanisms. Here we discuss the recovery issues that are specific to RAC, starting from the basics and then delving deeper into RAC-based backup and recovery and other information that is not easily available or accessible.
