Probably the most important task for the DBA is to back up the database. This is because the DBA’s highest responsibility is to ensure the stability and security of the database. In the event of a catastrophic system failure, the DBA must be able to quickly and effectively restore the database to a point in time as close to the time of failure as possible. Although this task is one of the most important tasks for the DBA, it is also one of the least glamorous and least visible. It is up to you to make sure that everyone understands its criticality.
