6. Administering Zones
Oracle Solaris provides a virtualization environment called “zones.” Zones provide an isolation environment that allows virtual Oracle Solaris 11 and 10 environments to run on the same physical system. You can create Oracle Solaris 10 or 11 virtual environments on x86- or SPARC-based Oracle Solaris 11 systems.
Zones provide a virtual OS environment within a single physical instance of Oracle Solaris 11. Applications can run in an isolated and secure environment.
