If you are connecting to the target database via a network connection, you need to use a connect string. For this to work, you should have a password file in place for your target database. The following example connects to the target using the sys account with a password of mooft:
$ rman target / sys/mooft@brdstn nocatalog
Recovery Manager: Release 9.0.1.0.0 - Production
connected to target database: BRDSTN (DBID=664610428)
using target database controlfile instead of recovery catalogIn this example, brdstn is a net service name. Net
service names are typically defined in the tnsnames.ora
file.
