Tagging a backup
Sometimes it’s nice to name a backup set based on your nomenclature. For example, you may want to distinguish between daily or weekly backups, or you may want to distinguish easily between various incremental-level backups. One way to do this is to tag your backup set with a name of your choosing. You do this via the tag keyword in the backup command. For example, the following example tags a level 3 backup with the name inc_level_3:
RMAN>backup incremental level 3 tag inc_level_3 format2>'/d99/rmanback/rman_%U.bus';
Tags can be used with the list command to locate backup sets quickly and can also be used with the restore and switch commands. The same tag name can be used across multiple backup sets; in other words, it doesn’t have to be unique. When a tag name that you reference is not unique, RMAN uses the most recent backup set with the given tag name.
As an example, the following list command reports on the previous backup we tagged as inc_level_3:
RMAN> list backuppiece tag=inc_level_3;Become an O’Reilly member and get unlimited access to this title plus top books and audiobooks from O’Reilly and nearly 200 top publishers, thousands of courses curated by job role, 150+ live events each month,
