CHAPTER2Basic Installation and Updates
Solaris 11 is available for both SPARC and x86 systems from Oracle, and for systems from other x86 hardware vendors. New systems purchased from Oracle include options to have Solaris 10 or 11 preinstalled. Installation options include interactive graphical methods and non-graphical methods using media-based or network-based OS boot images. System administrators can also create custom boot images that include specific software packages. In this chapter, we describe these various installation options and show you how to perform the most common installation and update tasks.
