Most of us—maybe even all of us—became nature photographers after we fell in love with nature. Maybe we grew up with nature around us, or maybe we learned about it on summer trips away from the city. Maybe it was the birds or the flowers, hikes in the mountains, or just watching snails. For me, it was the ocean. I’ve lived near the ocean most of my life, and many of my assignments allow me to spend time photographing animals like the sea otters on the preceding pages.
