Times have changed. We now see the immediate results of our photography on the LCD screens of our cameras and phones. But we are still disappointed by pictures that are too light, too dark, or just way off because the camera did not meter what we considered important or the flash didn’t illuminate adequately. All these problems can be traced back to incorrect exposure. Although modern cameras have sophisticated light meters and exposure controls, strong backlighting or well-intentioned but incorrect camera settings can fool these modern wonders into making the wrong exposure.
