Chapter 7Rebuilding and Re-Creating Images

The worst images you will face are those that are so damaged by mold, fire, water, or neglect that entire portions of the image are either missing or damaged beyond recognition. In these disaster cases, asking the client for the original negative or a better print is futile, because there probably is none. The secret to replacing, rebuilding, and repairing the all-but-beyond-hope images is to beg, borrow, and steal image information from whatever is left of the original image or to find suitable substitutes to re-create missing backgrounds and body parts.
