12.6. Summary
PostgreSQL is capable of handling Binary Large Objects (BLOBs). Entire files can be stored in the database. Internally a file is represented by an object id. PostgreSQL provides a set of functions for interacting with BLOBs. Most of these functions are similar to their C counterparts.
PHP provides functions for working with PostgreSQL's BLOBs as well. In addition to the functions related to BLOBs, you can work with hexadecimal data, which can be stored in ordinary text variables.
