Some years ago, it was common to develop web applications with a fixed-width page size of 960 pixels. This size was a good choice for the popular 17-inch desktop monitor displays.

Times have changed. Desktops and modern laptops have high-resolution screens, and many people are using quite large screens. Full HD for example is 1920 pixels wide.
