In the early 1990s, the Philippines were hit by a major energy crisis. The Quezon Power Project was undertaken in an attempt to find a solution to this critical macroeconomic problem. By means of this initiative, in fact, the Philippine government would improve national energy planning by diversifying the mix of sources utilized to generate electric power in the country. In addition, the project would make it possible to extend the power supply to developing parts of the country and to stabilize the electrical energy distribution system.
