Your camera’s sensitive side
ISO controls how sensitive your camera is to light. It works like this:
When it’s dark you need to make the most of the limited light, so you increase the sensitivity of your camera by increasing your ISO. When it’s bright, your camera doesn’t need to be as sensitive, so you decrease the sensitivity of your camera by decreasing your ISO.
If your camera is more sensitive, light doesn’t need to enter for so long, meaning you’ll be able to use faster shutter speeds in low light. This will help to avoid camera shake.
To change your ISO, first make sure you’re on one of the ‘good’ modes (see p. 32) then find your ISO setting. This will either be a button on your camera’s body or an option in one of its menus. Find ...
