ACCUMULATOR See Secondary Battery.

ACTIVE MATERIAL Specific chemically reactive material at the positive or negative electrode that takes part in the charge and discharge reactions. In the nickel-cadmium cell, nickel hydroxide and cadmium hydroxide are used as active materials at the positive and negative electrodes, respectively.
