Complete Combined Approach

Chapters 4 and 5 presented successful applications of the combined approach to a simple 2D frame structure and a complicated 3D helicopter structure. However, the approach is not yet complete, as it was based on the assumption that the covariance matrix of M, Cm, is known, while the stiffness matrix is assumed to be deterministic, i.e. Ck=0. In other words, only the variation problem of added masses was treated, which randomizes the mass matrix M. In practice, however, the variation problem involves random structural properties, which influence the stiffness matrix K. Therefore, the covariance matrix of K, Ck, needs to be considered.
