The fact that Haskell is included in this listing of languages indicates how important the functional paradigm is to this book. Haskell is a purely functional language designed by committee and released in 1998. It has several fascinating features, most notably lazy evaluation, whereby the value of a given piece of data does not need to be known (or even meaningful) until it needs to be used.
