It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The standard Ruby distribution contains useful tools along with the
interpreter and standard libraries: debugger, profiler,
irb (which is interactive ruby), and ruby-mode for
Emacs. These tools help you debug and improve your Ruby programs.
