Progressions and Structure

There is a continuous growth that is designed to ensure maximum dramatic effect in a play. Actors, directors, and designers concerned with professionalism need to understand and theatricalize this growth and the particular way it shows itself in their stage work. For if all the events give the impression of being equally important, or if their relationship to each other or to the play as a whole is misinterpreted, the result will be artistic disorder and an uninteresting performance. A production that is flat (lacking in emotional dynamics) could be a sign that too little attention has been given to the vital issue of continuous, calculated growth.
