Introducing Snowflake
Snowflake is a relatively new database that has been built specifically for the cloud and is geared primarily toward data warehousing solutions. Snowflake has been built from scratch as a cloud-only data warehousing platform. A significant advantage of the Snowflake platform compared to other data warehouses is its differentiated architecture. Unlike several other database engines designed to work on the cloud, Snowflake takes full advantage of the cloud platform's novel features. The result is a hybrid architecture in which the compute or the processing layer can be scaled up and down independently of the scaling of storage. This powerful and cost-effective capability allows customers to acquire additional processing power when they need it.
