This chapter provides an overview of how test activities are managed in sequential and iterative software development life cycle (SDLC) models.
We will start by looking at the activity of test planning, including the definition of entry and exit criteria, techniques for estimating the testing effort, how to prioritise tests and the concepts behind the test pyramid and testing quadrants. We will discuss how testing and risk fit together, how we monitor and control the test activities and how we communicate the status of testing to the stakeholders. We further discuss how configuration management supports testing and how to prepare well documented defect reports.
