At the beginning of the current millennium, there were still no good tools available for analyzing software systems. At the time, system architecture was examined by reading source code in the development environment. This was time-consuming and incomplete, as it is impossible to read all the lines of a system’s code and somehow keep track of the overall structure. Fortunately, as of about 2002, a number of tools began to appear that allow an in-depth analysis of a system’s actual architecture in a professional environment.
