4.5. Block Diagrams

The central elements in object orientation are classes and objects. Closely related to classes are components in UML as well. Since the two terms are historically at home in the software development discipline, SysML doesn’t use them in this form. All static concepts and objects are blocks in SysML.

Blocks describe the structure of a system. They possess information about the block itself (attribute), or they reference other blocks they are bound with (association). In addition to the purely static structure, blocks also describe operations (i.e., behavior they can execute).
