I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
6 Architecting through Heuristics
The Heuristics Method
As explained by Rechtin [1], heuristics are broadly stated objectives that outline what is to be done. The first is the method outlined by Rechtin. It is called the heuristics method. In short, the heuristics method establishes the parts of the system and the arrangement of these parts through the application of heuristics. What is a heuristic? Some examples of heuristics are:
- Rules of thumb
- Best practices
- Common sense
- Intuitive judgments
This chapter will bring some examples of the use of heuristics to aid the Architecting process based on Maier and Rechtin [2].
