Data Connection Details
As discussed in Chapter 2, the very first requirement when creating a new Tableau workbook is choosing a data source. Unlike traditional spreadsheet and word processing programs, Tableau can’t start with a “blank slate”; it must connect to some existing database, data file, or data source before you can begin to design a chart or graph. Tableau’s entire paradigm is visualizing data—the first thing you have to do is pick the data!
