2Introduction of SPSS and Segregation of Data

2.1 Introduction

The kind of statistical test used for addressing the research questions depends upon the type of data generated in the study. Several statistical software are available for data analysis, but we have used the IBM SPSS® Statistics software (“SPSS”)1 in this book to show different analyses. “SPSS” stands for Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Using this software, different types of analyses can be carried out. While discussing data types in Chapter 1, we have seen that there are two different types of metric data, i.e. interval and ratio, but in SPSS, both these data types are referred to as Scale. In this chapter, we discuss the introduction of SPSS for the beginners along with different types of data management procedures that can be carried out in SPSS.

2.2 Introduction to SPSS

In this book, since we have used SPSS software for solving problems in different illustrations, it is important for us to introduce the readers to SPSS and its basic functionality.
