Some Statistics
As a number of people have pointed out, it’s difficult to get an accurate figure on the cost of cybercrime [1–3], partly because it depends on how you define it. A 2016 White House report [4] suggested that the impact on the US economy alone lay somewhere between a lower estimate of US$57Bn and an upper figure of US$109Bn. For reference, that upper figure is roughly equal to the gross domestic product (GDP) of Ecuador (population 17 million) in the same year [5].
Other estimates quote US$600Bn per year for 2017 [6], US$1Tn per year for 2020 [7], and a projected US$10Tn per year by 2025 [8]. That suggested figure of US$1Tn is equivalent ...
