My name is Mark Wayman; however, my friends call me the Godfather of Las Vegas. After 20 years of corporate life and 3 years at a start-up, I set up my own company doing what I do best: helping people. In my case, that means placing highly compensated executives in the gaming and high-tech industries. My executive placement business allows me to follow my passion: helping and serving others.

This chapter is written for executives in transition. And CIOs always seem to be in transition—either unemployed or unhappily employed and trying to find a new job. As a matter of fact, of all the C-level executives I represent, CIOs are the most transient. This chapter is based on my 20 years as a corporate executive and 5 years as the owner of an executive talent firm. I place approximately 50 executives annually, primarily at the C and vice president level, with an average annual compensation of $200,000+.

The goal of this chapter is to educate you on how to be part of the top 5 percent, the candidates in high demand that Fortune 500 companies search for. In the search business, these candidates are called the A players.
