Shooting interviews and discussions

A rough distinction between a studio interview and a discussion is that an interview is shot with as many cameras as there are guests; a discussion implies more guests, often many more, than there are cameras. Discussions are therefore the more complex to direct. This does not mean that an interview director ought to lock off the cameras one to a performer. As the previous chapters should have made clear there is an art to directing even the simplest of formats.

No two interviews or discussions are identical and no two skilled directors would shoot in exactly the same way. The following seating arrangements and possible camera shots are well-tested formulae for the most commonly met studio situations. ...
