Who Is This Chapter For?

This chapter is designed for fraud fighters, Trust and Safety teams, and anyone who works with them or shares their professional concerns about reducing fraud or problematic activity within an organization. The chapter doesn’t require in-depth expertise. That’s because it’s focused on preventing a wider range of problematic behavior than the financial fraud typically handled by fraud-fighting teams, as well as on improving cross-departmental communication and collaboration. Readers with more experience of how diverse companies function may be able to apply the ideas more broadly and easily than professional newcomers, but investing in interdepartmental relationships and embracing creativity are just as valuable in this area as experience.

Introduction

So far in this book, we’ve talked about some of the potential benefits, risks, and use cases of GenAI in fraud prevention. We have not yet named one of the factors that holds a lot of fraud fighters back from making the most of it: fraud fighters themselves. Whether it’s fear of becoming redundant, discomfort with new technology, or a feeling that things were working fine without it, there’s a risk that fraud professionals are letting themselves become their own worst enemy when it comes to GenAI.
