9. The Other Apps
I’ve covered the iPhone’s major areas: Phone, Messages, Mail, Safari, iPod, Photos, Calendar, YouTube, and the stores. It’s time to turn to the smaller apps, which by default occupy the bulk of the iPhone’s Home screen: Stocks, Maps, Weather, Notes, and the Utilities folder (which contains Clock, Calculator, Compass, and Voice Memos).
If you’ve used Mac OS X, many of these apps are familiar to you, as most of them are offered in that operating system as widgets—small applications that perform limited tasks. On the iPhone, they’re considered to be full-blown apps, even though they’re largely single-purpose programs. They work this way.
