It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Successful Kanban implementations can have a profound impact on all the Lean metrics outlined in this playbook. Carrying excessive levels of inventory ties up money that could be used for purposes that are more beneficial to the company. Not every company is the same, and you must look at each part and supply individually to determine what the best replenishment system will be to implement better control. Start with shop supplies and then work your way to raw parts and material. Start small as well and maybe focus on a couple of supply cabinets first, then branching into an area with more inventory.
