Chapter 14. Content Suppliers

If you want people to come back to your site and stick around for a bit while they're there, you must have high-quality, frequently updated content. There are three main ways of doing this:

  1. Create or commission the creation of original content, exclusive to your site. There's not much to explain here ... you write/create the content, or you pay someone else to do it for you.

  2. Have the content created automatically by your community. By adding some of the tools discussed under "CGI Scripts," you can have much of the content of your site created automatically by your site community. Things like forums, wikis, blogs, video sharing, and so on will constantly add new content with very little effort of your own.

  3. Use third-party content from article and syndication feed sites. These sites contain literally millions of articles that you can add to your site or newsletter. Most of these have syndication feeds—see "Really Simple Syndication (RSS)"—or other mechanisms you can use to insert the article(s) of interest on your site by simply adding a tiny snippet of code to the page.
