Chapter 5. Values

What Standards Will Help Your Team Enjoy Working Together? (6 minutes)

Who you are, what your values are, what you stand for... They are your anchor, your north star. You won't find them in a book. You'll find them in your soul.

Anne Mulcahy, Chairman and CEO, Xerox

I look for three things in hiring people. The first is personal integrity, the second is intelligence, and the third is a high energy level. But, if you don't have the first, the other two will kill you.

Warren Buffett, CEO, Berkshire Hathaway

Note

Values define your standards of behavior, your code of conduct, how people want to treat each other. Values help your team enjoy working together. They are commitments regarding how your team will treat others.

The values displayed by your senior leaders are especially important in developing your organization and its culture.
