Much has been claimed about the strategic promise of new information technologies over the years. Back in the 1980s, McFarlan (1984) argued that, “Information Technology Changes the Way You Compete”, while Porter and Millar (1985) provided guidance as to “How Information Gives You Competitive Advantage”.
