Pages 136–137: The gritty industrial town of Matanzas, Cuba, is sometimes called the “Venice of Cuba” for the seven rivers that bisect the place. In my mind’s eye, as I made this image, I thought of this composition as a Canaletto painting because Canaletto’s famous paintings of Venice, Italy, show a long perspective line of a city interacting with the water.
To fully realize this idea, after processing the RAW file a number of times, I retouched out some antennas and wires because I didn’t want traces of modernity to show. As a final, finishing step I overlaid the image with a texture to make it look more like canvas that ...
