Appendix A. About the Author

Simon King is the Director of the CMU Design Center, an interdisciplinary space for design research and education at Carnegie Mellon University. He was previously a Design Director and Business Lead at IDEO in Chicago, where he led the studio’s interaction design discipline. During his 8 years at IDEO, Simon’s work spanned diverse mediums and audiences, including medical imaging equipment, vehicle HMI platforms, personal health apps, financial planning tools, and consumer experiences for web, mobile, TV, and connected devices. Simon holds a Master of Design in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Western Michigan University.

Kuen Chang is a Design Director at IDEO, where he is leading the industrial design discipline in Chicago. His passion is building great teams and designing brand-defining products and experiences. Kuen believes form follows purpose, which speaks to a product’s function, emotional resonance, and overall brand purpose.
