I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 9. Enterprise Management
Much of this book is focused on tools for monitoring a single UNIX system. You may, however, be responsible for monitoring tens or hundreds of systems. Also, it is likely that you are managing a heterogeneous environment in which it is important to monitor heterogeneous systems consistently. For example, a company may have decided to migrate from UNIX to NT, but does not want to replace their UNIX applications, such as SAP. The company may choose to keep a portion of the application (e.g., the database server) on UNIX, while moving the application servers to NT. Using consistent tools for monitoring different platforms can make your job easier. Standards such as SNMP are especially important for this type of environment. ...
