So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
CHAPTER 18Using UNIX and Windows Together
The UNIX System gives you a rich working environment that includes multitasking, extensive networking capabilities, and a versatile shell with many tools. UNIX exists in many versions, called variants, that include distributions of Linux, Mac OS X, and BSD that run on desktop environments, and other distributions that run on workstations, minicomputers, and mainframes—such as Solaris, HP-UX, and AIX. But we live in a world in which millions of desktop PCs and servers run applications under Microsoft Windows, which itself has a few versions currently being used, such as Windows 2000, Windows XP, and even older versions on home PCs.
