Appendix Research Methodology
The research underpinning this book, and the examples and accounts within it, draw on several interconnected projects that have extended over seven years. They comprise a broader program of work on high performance.1
We first came together as researchers to conduct a large-scale international study that during the years 2007–2010 that investigated organizations that performed beyond expectations (PBE) in the public and private sectors.2 This study joined research teams from the United States and the United Kingdom and asked three questions:
