Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
Virtualization can play a big role in disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity planning (BCP) operations. There are several aspects to this. First, you have tools and controls available within the virtual infrastructure to allow High Availability and continuity to occur. This includes clustering, resource pooling, and various features provided by hypervisor manufacturers. The second major aspect to availability and DR/BCP involves leveraging virtualization explicitly for this purpose; in other words, changing your continuity strategy to include virtualization, and there are advantages to doing this (as well as new challenges).
