CHAPTER TEN
Work with Visual Studio Tools
Hacks 77–82
Visual Studio includes a number of different tools that can be used both
inside and outside of the IDE environment. The hacks in this chapter cover
the Visual Studio command prompt and some of the tools that are easily
accessible from it. You will also see how to make the Visual Studio com-
mand prompt more accessible by adding various shortcuts to it.
This chapter also includes hacks on stress testing your applications, making
it harder for your code to be decompiled and understood, and generating
UML from your code (and vice versa).
HACK
#77
Master the Visual Studio Command Prompt Hack #77
Put the mouse down for a few minutes as you learn how to do nearly
everything right inside of the Visual Studio command prompt.
The Visual Studio command prompt (VSCP) is a command prompt that
loads environmental settings for Visual Studio and the .NET Framework.
What this means is that you can open the command prompt and type in the
command for a Visual Studio or framework tool, and it will work without
you having to type the full path or navigate to where that tool is located.
(VSCP also sets certain environment variables, without which many of these
tools would not function correctly.)
To use the VSCP, you need to navigate to Start
➝ Program Files ➝ Microsoft
Visual Studio .NET 2003
➝ Visual Studio .NET Tools ➝ Visual Studio .NET
2003 Command Prompt. ...
