The network architecture of VoIP security consists of two groups of devices: service devices and security devices.

The service devices are primarily designed for providing VoIP services such as call setup, media control, protocol conversion, voicemail access, user interaction, and so on. As a secondary purpose, most service devices provide limited security features.
