Set a larger timeout for TCP retransmits for the Internet, because the Internet is slower than a LAN.
Increase the TCP listen queue if you know it is overflowing.
Don’t let unused connections hang around for more than half an hour (not eight hours, as TCP originally specified).
Use HTTP 1.1 if possible.
