It would be madness to suggest that a definitive book could be written about the music producer that encompassed all musical genres. Logic might suggest that a collection of books should be written, possibly one for each music genre since the job of a classical music producer is quite different to that of a pop music producer. Or perhaps a series of books ought to be written for each style of music producer?

Richard Burgess’s The Art of Record Production and Howard Massey’s Behind the Glass are long-standing texts in this area. Both books, in my view, capture the essence of the modern music producer in the rock and pop genres.
