What Is a Service Business or Organization?

The key difference between manufacturing and service industries is that there is no primary tangible direct output and there is no principal product inventory to stock and hold ready for sale.

A restaurant appears to be a hybrid where there is a product being consumed along with a service being provided. The (added) value is that customer does not need to prepare and clear up the meal.1 A consensus appears to exist on it being a service business.

Training, maintenance, and test and calibration are examples of service businesses where the client brings themselves or provides the item to be maintained, tested, or calibrated.
